Embracing the Right-Brain Magic: A Journey with Our Kids

Hey there, amazing parent! 🌟 Let's dive into something truly fascinating about our little ones. Did you know that very young children are rocking their right-hemisphere dominance in those early years, especially during their first three trips around the sun? They haven't quite figured out how to use logic and words to share their feelings yet. Instead, they live entirely in the moment. It's why you might find them suddenly squatting down, utterly captivated by a ladybug's journey on the sidewalk, completely oblivious to the ticking clock or their upcoming toddler music class.

For these tiny humans, logic, responsibilities, and time are still elusive concepts. But, when they hit you with a million "whys," it's a sign! Their left brain is starting to join the party. You see, our left brain loves getting to the bottom of things—finding those cause-effect relationships and expressing logic with language. That's a fact straight from Daniel Siegel's awesome book, The Whole Brain Child.

Bridging the Connection Gap

At "Nurturify: Better Parents, Better Planet," we're all about supporting parents in really getting how we've shifted to being left-brain dominant as we've grown up. This shift means we're living in different realities than our kids—realities that don't always overlap easily. And that's reason number one why understanding each other can be quite the adventure.

But here's where it gets exciting: If anyone can bridge this gap, it's us, the adults! Our kiddos just can't climb that staircase to meet us in the logical realm yet, and expecting them to is like expecting them to sprout wings and fly. But, we've got a little secret up our sleeves—we know that right-hemisphere world well. We lived there full-time before adulthood swept us away with responsibilities.

Rediscovering the Right-Hemisphere Magic

While we might've tucked away those memories, the path back to the right-brain dimension is still there. It's a familiar place, maybe a little dusty, but totally accessible.

We can get there by practising the state of judgement-free exploration, immersive observation and 'being' or 'absorbing' rather then only 'talking' or 'thinking' (which are both of the left-brain realm). Allowing ourselves to be spontaneous and playful has its place too when it comes to tapping into our right brain power. That is what makes us look at situations through the lenses of our children and help us come up with response based on understanding both perspectives, not just one.

By stepping into this world, even if just for those magical moments of connection with our kids, we open up new possibilities for understanding. And who knows? As we linger in that space more often, we might find unexpected treasures for ourselves — a rekindled sense of wonder or a newfound aliveness.

So, let's embrace the right-brain magic, not just for our kids, but for us, too. Dive into their world and see what wonders unfold. Here's to building bridges, nurturing understanding, and finding joy in those precious connections. 🌈

Share it with a fellow parent who could use a reminder of the wonders of right-brain living! Happy parenting adventures! 😊
